Quick Tip: How to Set a Field for Aggressive Batsmen

Mandeep hit us up with a problem he is having;

How would I set a field for aggressive batsmen? We are playing a team in a couple weeks time and their top 4 batsmen are very aggressive and good at finding boundaries all over the ground.

Sounds like a nightmare, especially if you are getting smashed all round the park.

But the attacking batsmen also always gives you hope, especially when he first comes in and wants to dominate your bowling before he is set.

If you have played against the batter before you will know his favourite shot. He will be looking to play it first.

So if you know he is gagging to blaze a cover drive, pop a guy out on the cover boundary.

His blazing boundary is suddenly a single.

It's a tacticl England used in the 2005 Ashes and one that has now become commonplace in Test cricket.

It frustrates the atting player and makes him play shots in places he doesn't normally try early on.

Which means you are more likely to get him out and run the same tactic on the next guy.

Use the aggressive player's lack of patience against him and you have nothing to fear.
