CRICKET JOBS: League and Club Development Officer - Somerset CB (UK)

Filed in:

Closing date: 17th January 2016

Base: Wellsway School (Keynsham) or The County Ground (Taunton)

Hours: Flexible with regular evenings, 37 hours per week

The Somerset Cricket Board wishes to appoint a League & Club Development Officer to lead and inspire the development of recreational cricket in Somerset.

The successful future of leagues and clubs in England and Wales is paramount to the health of our sport. This is the first role we have created to focus solely on supporting leagues and clubs, and will be an extremely fulfilling and diverse role for the successful incumbent.

If you have the personality to build genuine relationships with volunteers, the enthusiasm and drive required to support leagues, and the energy to do so during regular evening meetings, then please read on.

We are not looking for things to be done as they have always been done in the past. We are looking for new ideas and creative thinking that will excite future generations of cricketers to take up the game now and stay a part of it for years to come.

A balance however will need to be struck to keep existing, more traditional players in the game too. The successful applicant’s ability to manage change will therefore be of the utmost importance.

Within four months of starting the role our clubs will need you to become an expert in volunteer/player recruitment and retention, facility improvements, sources of funding, and general club development. We will help you to develop in these areas with formal and informal training, but any prior experience in these fields will be beneficial to have an immediate impact.

Our leagues need you to respect their traditions and their history whilst helping them gather player and club opinions on what should happen in the future. Communicating this insight to leagues and clubs and having the ability to network appropriately to influence key decision makers will be fundamental to ensure that the best decisions are made.

You will become a major part of a friendly, professional and supportive team that have a ‘can do’ attitude to helping our communities and each other.

Our Schools & Disability Officer and our two Community Coaches will work closely with you to ensure the smooth transition of players from schools to clubs. Other staff members and stakeholders also look forward to helping you settle in to the role by sharing their knowledge and experiences of Somerset cricket with you so you are not starting from scratch.

The deadline for applications to be received is Midnight on Sunday 17th January and the date for interviews at The County Ground, Taunton is Monday 25th January.

Applicants must provide evidence of eligibility to work in the United Kingdom.
