Over the last 10 weeks, eight cricketers have been conducting an experiment in improving their cricket. Today, I want to give you the results of that hard work.

This is both a story and an evidence-based piece of research. There are lessons to be learned about every aspect of cricket coaching; how to improve, how long it takes to see changes, how to manage unexpected situations, dealing with people and dealing with your own mental game. There's a tale here for you that has taken well over 30 hours to construct.

Today I am going to put my money where my mouth is. But I need your help too. This is a cricket skills case study about me: I'm going to report back to you on a goal so you can see how these methods work and take the ideas into your game. I'd love you to come along for the journey too.

2015 gave me the most amazing coaching experience of my career.

It was a huge privilege to work with a top group of blokes who taught me heaps about desire, commitment and team-work. All the more incredible given that the average age of the team was 14.

In December 2014 I inherited a team who had lost 70% of their games in the previous season. Feedback from that year centred on a lack of leadership, the selfishness of one or two key players and the general lack of cricketing ability.

12 months on and largely the same of players lifted the England Schools Cricket Association National T20 Cup.

So how did this group of players do it?

Cricket clubs around the world are dealing with the same issues. Sometimes it's nice to see how someone else does it within those common constraints.

One example is Stirling County Cricket Club, a thriving Scottish side. I caught up with Head Coach Ian Shaw to find out how a modern coach approaches the club game.

Following on from the profiling article, this is an example of how the profile is used practically.

I'm lucky enough to work with some very talented players, one of whom was disappointed not to make the Academy cut last year. Following that decision, We sat down and worked through the profiler in January and planned our programme around that initial assessment.

The aim was to make the cut for this year.

If you want to improve cricketers you need practice regularly and monitor your performance.

That’s been the challenge of Millfield School and Mark Garaway the school’s Director of Cricket Coaching: even for a top English independent school, that has produced some fine first class players Simon Jones, Craig Kieswetter, Ben Hollioake and David Graveney.

The facilities are excellent, but there are still challenges to further boost the boy’s performances at the school.

We get an insight into how he does things this week, as well as find out how Watsonian are doing at the halfway stage in the season.
