Best of PitchVision Academy 2011
What’s more traditional than an end of year review of the season?
All good teams do it, so all good coaching websites should too. Here are the most popular and relevant posts of the last 12 months here at PitchVision Academy.
It’s been a stellar year, thanks for coming along.
The Case Study
Over the summer we profiled Scottish club Watsonian CC in their campaign for the Scottish Premier League. I profiled an early season game in a tactical analysis of the team lead by former-Scotland International Craig Wright.
Despite its length the first article in the series How to Control the Middle Overs Bowling First, was the most popular of the year for hits.
The International Cricketer
This year saw us sign our first current international player to the PitchVision Academy coaching panel. We spent two days filming with JP Duminy in Cape Town and came up with both free content and premium courses that proved extremely popular.
JP’s landing page is still one of the biggest viewed on the site. If you missed the fun you can click here to get the free videos and other content from the South Africa and IPL superstar.
Mindful Innovation
I’m all about innovative practice methods here at PitchVision Academy. It’s our unofficial mission to make every training session for every team at every level far more mindful.
And it seems you agree with us because my article 6 Proven Bowling Practices that are Better Than Having Nets was a smash hit for the year. It acted as a cheat sheet of drills for coaches looking at new ways to challenge their bowlers and make measureable improvements.
It also showed how important PitchVision is becoming in the modern coaching world, where data is becoming a crucial tool in the coaching mix.
Mark Garaway Arrives
Former England Analyst Mark Garaway joined the PitchVision Panel this year to head up the coach education section.
His weekly articles were an instant hit and none more popular than his One Leg Front Foot Drive drill that sparked a great discussion in the comments section too.
Its articles and feedback like this that makes PVA such a great community to watch over.
The Daddy Hundred
2011 saw the arrival of a new term: The Daddy Hundred that sums up the need to go big when you get your eye in.
Well as we are nothing if not plugged directly into the zeitgeist, so I penned this How to Coach Batsmen to Daddy Hundreds article in May. It outlined the simple steps you need to take to produce batsmen with the mindset and skill-set to get big hundreds.
Ian Pont Hits it for Six
Ian Pont is one of our most popular authors on the site with his articles and courses regularly topping the charts in these polls.
In this killer article 11 Ways to Improve Your Attacking Batting he hit the sweet spot with some plain speaking advice on how to become a more attacking batsman. It’s so good because so many players struggle to score at a decent lick and fear getting a reputation as a blocker.
This article sets you on the road to recovery from the label.
The Year of the Drill
The PitchVision Academy crowd have an insatiable thirst for drills so this year we posted up a record number to the archive that now contains more drills than anywhere else online (and maybe offline).
And the most popular of the year was the simple Fast Feet drill.
I hope you reached your cricketing aims, and that you stick with us in 2012 so we can help you take the next step on the road.
